Experience with Covid
Our usual ramblings are around railroading, railfanning and railfan videos. Occasionally we talk about the team here at RailfanDepot. This is one of those posts. And, for the first time ever, your Conductor, Tim, is turning this perch over to someone else. Our very own Ken has an important story and message.
Hello railfans and RailfanDepot customers, this is a personal shout out from Ken, the guy that creates and posts video clips to our social media pages. The Conductor of this great train ride I get to be a part of has been doing his best to convince everyone to get the Covid-19 vaccine, and now I offer a personal, from experience message.
I was one of those people who had the attitude that if I actually did catch Covid, as an otherwise healthy individual it would be nothing more than an inconvenience. So I was on the fence regarding the need for the vaccine. At the very least I thought, let others get it and I’ll see if I really need it. Well, I was wrong. Almost tragically wrong.

After just spending 6 days in the ICU of my local hospital, with treatments ranging from a Covid antibody plasma IV to 5 rounds of the drug Remdesivir to steroids and antibiotics, I’m obviously in a different frame of mind about the whole thing. After three days of wanting nothing more than to be in bed and having no ability to eat or function I went to the ER. Had my trip to the ER been delayed by one more day, I’m not sure I would have gotten through this. The Covid virus does not follow any rules and there is no way to know how it will affect anyone who might get it.
Frankly, I have been humbled. I’m happy to say that I am home now, recovering, and posting again on social media, but what a scare. The vaccines were developed within an amazingly short time period with great dedication and hard work by the best in medical science.
When the virus came to America, those in government joined with industry and biomedical science and swept away bureaucracy and restrictive regulations. The CDC made quick work of evaluating and approving the various vaccines. Companies were urged to work together.
The result is that the world has created multiple vaccines in record time. And now in the United States every adult is eligible, and soon every teen and then children. Get vaccinated. It’s time to make Covid nothing more than a bad memory.
Let’s get everything back to normal folks. Please get vaccinated as soon as possible!
It’s Tim again…what can I say? I agree wholeheartedly with Ken. But what he says carries more weight. He’s lived through it.
